Hold the phone. The New Pornographers’ frontman-turned-solo artist, A. C. Newman, has a new album called Get Guilty rolling out soon. The first track, “There are Maybe Ten or Twelve“, has the slow-sweeping hooks of 2004’s The Slow Wonder paired with the poppy pleasure of the 2007’s Challengers. Does it sound like a Kinks rip off? Maybe. But since when is that a bad thing?

There are maybe ten or twelve things I could teach you. After that, well, I think you’re on your own. That wasn’t the opening line, it was the tenth or twelth. Make of that what you will.
